Mer's Fabulous Chiffon Party Skirt

DIY Chiffon Holiday Party Skirt
The weekend before Christmas one year we dropped everything to make Meredith a new skirt.  Because even big girls gotta have something fancy to wear for Christmas, right? Here's the story on Meredith's fabulous party skirt...

This was a sewing win!! She strutted around all day twirling and gushing about how beautiful it was and how she felt like a princess.  The fancy new "barbie" shoes she bought to go with it may have had something to do with that as well.

To make it I used a tutorial I had pinned that I found on Everyday Reading. I admit I was a little skeptical about whether or not it would turn out.  The only modifications I made were in the fabric.  We had a whole roll of Chiffon type fabric that someone gave me when they were moving. I think originally it was intended to be used for sheer curtain panels. The tutorial calls for 4 layers of tulle to be used for the skirt. We just used 2 layers of our fabric.

For the underskirt I used some ponte de roma from Joann.

Trim frayed fabric
We were very last minute on this skirt so she ended up wearing it without it being hemmed, which led to quite a bit of fraying. She cut to the frayed edge off for me and  I ended up using the rolled hem on my serger to hem each layer.  I had to practice a lot on scraps before I got the tension set just right.  Thankfully it worked. :) No photos though cause it was hemmed after the photo shoot,

You know you hit it out of the park when you make something for your daughter and she can't stop gushing about how much she loves it.
Sewing success!
