Robots and Breadsticks

These easy breadsticks are made in under an hour with no kneading. My kids devoured the entire pan as their afternoon snack. YUM! You might want to make some this weekend!
I finished up a late birthday present for Luke yesterday.  I made him a little Robot Apron.

He is my right hand man in the kitchen.  He loves to measure and pour.  He came home from preschool and opened his present.  He put it right on and wanted to bake something.

So we got right to work and made our favorite breadsticks.  These are so easy to make I thought I'd share the recipe with you.

Start to finish, these babies take a little less than 1 hour.

Easy Breadsticks
1 1/2 C warm water
1 T yeast
2 T Sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3 C flour
6 T melted butter

1. Mix all ingredients )except butter) together until well combined.  The dough will be sticky. You don't need to knead them.
2. Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for 10 min.
3. Turn the oven to 200 and melt the butter on a baking sheet. I usually put the butter on the pan and put it in the oven while it preheats. Turn the oven off when it's melted.
4. Cover the dough with flour so it doesn't stick to your hands and pour out the dough onto a floured surface.  Spread out the dough with your hands to make a rectangle shape.

5. Cut it into strips using a pizza cutter.  Don't sweat it if your helper doesn't cut things evenly. It won't matter.

7. Roll each strip into the melted butter on the pan.  Stretch it a little and twist them as you go.  You can sprinkle any toppings on you like at this point, but we like them plain.

8.  Let them rise for 15 min.  I usually put them in the warm (turned off) oven to rise.
9.  Bake them at 350 for 15-18 minutes.

My kids devoured the entire pan as their afternoon snack. YUM!  You might want to make some this weekend :)

Oh, one more thing.  For the applique on the apron I used this little pattern that I got a quilt market from SkipStone Creative.  It is meant to be sewn up as a softie, but can be used on anything.  I also really love the horse softie pattern on the site.

Have a great weekend!
