Criss Cross Mini Quilt

Last week I finished up the mini quilt that I was having troubles quilting.

I ended up getting machine quilting thread and making sure to oil my machine every 15 minutes of sewing.  I also realized that it skipped a lot more when I was sewing over the white.  I'm not sure what fabric I used.  Are some better to quilt through than others??

I found this cute Bow Peep fabric on the $5 yard cuts rack at a quilt shop nearby. I'm glad to get to use it for a quilt for a little one!  May nursery rhymes live on forever.

I really love how it turned out.  For the pattern I used Liz's Criss Cross quilt tutorial.  But just not quite as many squares.  It ended up to be just the right size for a little car seat or dolly quilt.  I love the look of this pattern for mixing a bunch of different fabrics.

The timing was just right to enter it into this little contest. Happy Sewing!

  2. Honestly, I think quilt shop fabrics quilt better than chain store fabrics. And I always prewash, I do think it makes a difference.

The fabrics with metallic ink can cause skipped stitches, too.

Lastly, I think how the fabric feels will tell you a lot. Stiff fabric doesn't quilt well. And high thread count sheets can also be a pain.

Oh, and I'm pretty picky about the thread and needles that I use. Just don't ask me what needle to use with what thread, b/c I can never remember. I do a bit of practicing until I get the combo right, and then quilt my actual quilt. :)
